The EINE WELT festival (ONE WORLD festival) took place on 21 June 2018 in

Berlin. On the big stage at Admiralspalast the winners of the second round of

the song contest gave live performances of their songs in front of a large

audience. In addition, information stands and participation activities held by

the partners of the school competition and the song contest formed an

accompanying programme for the festival.

The film starts with shots of Berlin and the arrival of the visitors at

Admiralspalast.

Nora Oehmichen, a teacher, enthuses, “We were really very surprised by

the festival. It’s very cool.”

Alessia, a pupil, confirms, “I also think it is wonderful here, in

particular the concert.”

In Admiralspalast, presenter Jessica Lange, who is also a patron of the

song contest, welcomes the visitors, “Hello everybody! Hi! Welcome to the EINE

WELT festival. I will guide you through this evening, and you will see

something really special.”

Impressions from the appearances of Adel Tawil, Jamie-Lee Kriewitz and

the main winners of the second song contest round, Gideon Glock and Konrad

Mellentin, are shown. They are followed by impressions of the participation

activities in and around Admiralspalast.

As the representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation

and Development, Dirk Schwenzfeier welcomes the visitors to the EINE WELT

festival, “I welcome you, I welcome you all very warmly this afternoon here in

Berlin in Admiralspalast. A very warm welcome to this EINE WELT festival. From

my own experience I can promise you that it will be a fantastic afternoon.”

In the interview Dirk Schwenzfeier explains, “I had the great pleasure of

opening the first song contest two years ago. I’m thrilled that I may so for a

second time this year and I was immediately enthused by the engagement, by the

joy and by the palpable enthusiasm.”

Tobi Burger, winner of the second round of the song contest, says, “I

think it’s fantastic that I may be here today. It means a lot to me.”

Dr. Jens Kreuter, Managing Director of Engagement Global, explains, “It

is also a very exciting proposition, an exciting opportunity to make something

visible, that I, at any rate, had previously not known of. I think that many

people do not know how many young musicians there are who are committed to

causes and who write their own texts, therefore also combining a contextual

message, a contextual message regarding development policy.”

Christof Stein-Schneider, of the Wohnraumhelden and patron of the song

contest, says, “Music is one of the most important things. It really is a

disgrace that not every child in our country has the chance to try out an

instrument at least once in their lives. That is why it is all the more

important that we offer support where we can in this regard.”

Luise Skupch, winner of the second round of the song contest, says, “This

is not actually about who is the best or who sung best or who can write the

best text, here it is really about the message and also that you communicate

this message with passion. And I think that is really important because brought

together here, so many positive and hopeful ideas simply appear and come

together.”

Jamie-Lee Kriewitz, patron of the song contest, explains, “The most

important thing about the song contest is that it encourages young people to

address specific political topics and to form their own opinion on them. They

can make something huge out of it.”

Impressions of the stage show are shown.

Cross, patron of the song contest, says, “For me it simply means being

able to support children and young adults to give them a chance of performing

on such a massively cool stage as today.”

Albert N’sanda, Gorilla Funk, adds, “To give them a stage to present

their talent and do that on an international level.”

Johnny Strange, Culcha Candela/Gorilla Funk and patron of the song

contest, explains, “I think that also for musicians the most important thing is

that you are not just presenting yourself but that you are using art to

motivate. And that was very obvious here. And everyone feels as one. This

one-world-idea is conveyed by everyone together. And it is a much nicer feeling

to stand on stage for a joint goal than just being there for yourself.”

Fargo, patron of the song contest, says, “It is even more important to

stand up for your own opinion today, when it feels as if the country is divided

into differing opinions on how to deal with foreign cultures.”

Sequences from the performance of the Goldene Stimmen, winner of the

Special Africa Prize in the second round of the contest, are shown.

Vanessa Madjoukouo of the Goldene Stimmen explains, “The song contest

actually means engagement, social engagement for us. That means that through

this competition we simply want to get involved in our countries or even

globally. We have also especially thought about a global theme. Think globally,

act locally.”

Sabine Cordes, a teacher, comments, “Music naturally conveys the ideas of

One World in a different way to words on their own. It quite simply is on a

completely different level. And yes, in that way it encourages participation.”

together, we can create a better world, if we act like one person. Songs and

music move people.”

Gideon Glock, the main winner of the second round of the song contest,

explains, “We have been making music like that for a long time, for a few years

already. And for us, it was then really cool to see that absolute strangers,

that people that we don’t even know, are even saying, Hey, I think that is

good.”

Konrad Mellentin (aka Franz Funke) says, “It’s really very important. The

future belongs to young people. And they have to get involved. Nothing happens

of its own accord. But I feel very positive in that respect because in my young

life I have met so many young, wonderful and committed people and I also see

what is happening here. So that I think, wow that the future will be great.”

Ees, a musician, enthuses, “It is so cool to see so many different people

in one place. That has a great vibe. Because music brings people together and

when people are together they have different vibes, which are just, well,

great.”

Numerous images of the stage show and images

from the grand finale, where all winners stand on the stage together and are

sprinkled with glitter rain are shown while in the background the EINE WELT

song (ONE WORLD song) “Mauern (Second ‘89)” fades out.

Gideon Glock and Konrad Mellentin aka “Gideon Glock ft. Franz Funke” perform their

winning song “Mauern (Second '89)” against the backdrop of a walled stage set

located within a factory space.

At the beginning of the video, the camera zooms out to reveal several figures

standing motionlessly whose heads have been replaced by blocks of stone. They

are standing in front of a wall with piles of rubble and debris heaped up

against it. As the music starts you see Gideon Glock and Konrad Mellentin in

the middle of a prison, consisting of walls and piles of rubble. They begin

smashing the walls with sledgehammers in order to demolish them. The figures

with stone blocks for heads start to dance like robots.

In addition to sequences with Gideon and Konrad within the walls, with the piles

of debris and dancers, multiple film sequences showing historical moments or

people are also mixed in, including Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, that

symbolize the fall of walls or calls for greater tolerance. The film sequences

are now overlaid with the faces of women, men and children of different ages.

Gideon and Konrad begin smashing the walls and debris with sledgehammers. Together with faces and dancers, historical film footage such as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 continues to be blended in, including with the stage set itself.

Gideon and Konrad perform within the walled stage set. They continue pounding the

structures with sledgehammers, finding themselves behind iron bars, which they

begin to cut with an angle grinder to free themselves from their walled prison.

This part too is interspersed with sequences showing historical images, faces

and the stone block dancers.

This is followed by numerous other sequences showing Gideon and Konrad breaking out of their walled confines, interspersed with historical images, faces and the

dancers. This is then followed by a very rapid sequence showing the faces of

women and men, including Johnny Strange and Fargo as supporters of the song

contest.

Several faces are faded in, which are then morphed on top of one another. Several facial components from different persons are united in one face, flowing into each other like a mosaic.

 With the final chorus they finally manage to break through the rear of the walled prison. A bright light shines through the hole in the wall into the interior space. As the hole grows larger, a meadow and blue sky emerge – a peaceful idyll into which Gideon and Konrad escape as they clamber out through the remains of the walls!

The Song Contest at Kirchentag 2017

During the German Evangelical Kirchentag (church conference) on May 27, 2017, the former winners of the “Dein Song für EINE WELT” (Your song for ONE WORLD) song contest performed. The video provides an impression of the different EINE WELT SONGS and additional self-composed numbers that were played by the winners in 2015 on stage at the Kirchentag. Amongst others, Andre Fischer, the main winner of the first round of the song contest, explains how he came to enter the song contest and Zoe Hoffard tells us what kind of experiences she was able to take with her from it.

At the beginning, there are different impressions from the Kirchentag and recordings of the construction of the stage equipment. A trumpet plays in the background.

You can see how the band Serena brings in trombones, trumpets, drums, bass and piano while teenagers relax and enjoy the music in the sun. The moderator explains that “a couple of young artists and bands are playing music […] that were the winning songs at last year’s song contest “Dein Song für EINE WELT!”.

After his performance of the winning song from 2015 “Flucht” (Flight), winner Friedemann Thierfeld explains that the song contest helped him out a lot regarding stage performances. Afterwards, Dorin Ben-David performs her song “Lovers of The Earth.”

Stefanie Schmiedel is the project manager of the “Dein Song für EINE WELT!” song contest and explains: “We were totally impressed with the quality of the songs; even regarding just the content alone, what the teenagers had to say was completely moving.” Next, the video shows performances from Philipp Jung and Maria Oracova.

Zoe Hoffard then explains that she was able to get to know so many people through the song contest that are involved in similar areas that she is, such as her interest in the world. She performs her song “Lass es regnen!” (Let it rain!) on stage. Andre Fischer, the main winner of the last round of the song contest recommends participating in the “Dein Song für EINE WELT” song contest, as the experiences that you can gain are “an opportunity of a lifetime.” He was made aware of the song contest by his teacher. At the Kirchentag, the winners performed as a group and rotated singing and playing together. Philipp Jung for example, contributed a couple lines to Andre’s winning song “Augen auf” (Eyes open).

Gereon Wintz is a member of the band Serena that won in 2015 with the song “Schluss mit der Gewalt” (No more violence). He calls out for participation and explains “It is a super cool competition and it gives you the chance to show what you can do and express your feelings.”

As the video fades out, a thank-you to all winners that performed on Kirchentag appears. Finally, viewers are asked to vote for the songs starting in August at www.eineweltsong.de/en.

Videodescription - 2017 impressions video

The launch event for the

“Your Song for ONE WORLD!” song contest took place on 23 March 2017 at Schiller

Secondary School in Münster. The impressions video provides an overview of the

different activities that took place during the launch event. Among other

things, Adel Tawil reports on what motivated him to become patron of the song

contest and Andre Fischer, the main winner of the first song contest, calls on

school students to take part in the competition. Also shown are the diverse

offerings displayed at the song contest partners’ information stands.

At the beginning, viewers

see school pupils entering Schiller Secondary School in Münster. Dr Kreuter,

Managing Director of Engagement Global, explains that the decision to choose

the school as an event location is an experiment. This enables the organisers

to engage with both musical but also unmusical

school students and to raise their awareness about global development as well

as to arouse interest in and enthusiasm for global justice. Students are meanwhile

shown sitting in the ONE WORLD studio or taking part in the participatory

activities organised by the partners of the respective song and school contests.

Adel Tawil, the patron of the 2017 Song Contest, reports that the “Eine Welt, eine Heimat” (One World, One Home) song

from his album “So schön anders” provided him with the chance to write a song

that shows that, irrespective of boundaries, it is entirely irrelevant where

you come from or who you are. It’s about pursuing the ONE WORLD goal together. For

him, that was also his motivation as patron of the “Your Song for ONE WORLD!” Song Contest.

While Adel Tawil speaks, clips from the performance of a capella group in the ONE WORLD studio as well as Andre Fischer

and Ezé Wendtoin, the winner of the 2015 Special Africa Prize, are shown in

front of the press wall along with the skate aid association’s participation

programme. Konrad Hünnekes is a pupil at Schiller Secondary School and reports

that last year he took part with his school in a school exchange in Namibia and

that skate aid also helped there. As part of the project, pupils built a skater

park at a school in Namibia for children with visual and hearing impairments.

For Konrad, ONE WORLD means coming together and overcoming prejudices, and the realisation

that every human being is equal.

It is shown how school pupils take photos

in the Photo Box and, in another box, lip-sync various ONE WORLD songs while recording themselves.

Anne Eyben, headmistress of the Schiller

Secondary School, believes that holding the opening event at the school has

proved to be an enormous win. Andre Fischer’s winning song has had a very

positive impact on the school. She says that although as a UNESCO project

school they have firmly rooted UNESCO and development policy topics in the

classroom, Andre reaches the students emotionally in a completely different way.

While Mrs Eyben speaks, pupils are shown

participating in the support programme and Andre Fischer in conversation with

the Mayor of the City of Münster, Karin Reismann. Afterwards you can see

Andre’s performance during the stage show and the enthusiastic spectators.

Next, Andre invites you to join the “Your Song for ONE WORLD!” song contest.

Speaking to the camera, he says:

“You should definitely take part in this

song contest, because it’s the best thing you can do. Firstly, it’s super cool

to be engaging with this issue and, if you’re worried and think that your music

isn’t good enough or there’s better music, then that’s completely the wrong way

to go. What you’re doing is super and you should definitely take part. It’s really great.”

In a collage of clips, images and brief

shots of the stage show are shown together with the panel discussion and

individual performances by the 2017 Song Contest patrons, Andre Fischer and Ezé Wendtoin.
