Maria Zintl and Tobias Burger at event of the Federal Government in Berlin

At a joint kick-off conference of the German government and the state of Berlin on the advancement of the German Sustainability Strategy and the development of a Berlin Sustainability Strategy, Song Contest winner Maria Zintl and Song Contest winner Tobias Burger performed their songs for for the EINE WELT (ONE WORLD).

Themed „Zukunft gestalten – Transformation, gemeinsam, jetzt!“ ("Shaping the future - transformation, together, now!"), the event took place on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the EUREF Campus in Berlin-Schöneberg. The event offered ample space for exchange and discussion, for ideas, innovations and commitment. About 350 people from civil society, politics, business, church, culture, science and clubs and societies came together and participated participated in the questions about where Germany or Berlin stand on the way to sustainable development and what further steps are necessary, desirable and feasible to implement the 2030 Agenda.

Two young people provided a special musical highlight during the event: Song Contest winner Maria Zintl and Song Contest winner Tobias Burger. With their self-written songs for the EINE WELT (ONE WORLD), they were able to convince the jury and the audience several times in the past rounds of the Song Contest. The Berlin audience was also enthusiastic.

Tobias Burger performed two songs: "Die eine Welt - beginnt im Kopf!" (One world - starts in the head!), in which he calls on people to make a small contribution to a better and fairer world every day using simple means, and "Mensch denk nach" (Think man!), in which the 17-year-old singer-songwriter from Bielefeld draws attention to global challenges such as climate change and environmental protection with a healthy amount of irony.

Maria Zintl also convinced the audience with two songs: In "Aus alt mach neu" ("From old to new"), adresses the 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Jena global consumer behavior, associated environmental impacts and production conditions in the textile industry, while at the same time drawing attention to the importance of recycling and sustainable use of raw materials. With her song "Wo ein Wille da ein Weg" (Where there's a will there's a way), she also launched a targeted wake-up call to everyone to take a closer look at their own consumer behavior and dare to make a change in order to protect our climate.

"It was enriching to listen to the presentations and discussions. Germany's politicians brought forward important proposals that now need to be implemented. There were many demands of the youth represented in the discussions, which is why we would have liked to see an even stronger representation of young people at this event," Maria Zintl and Tobias Burger concluded after the kick-off conference.
